Driver with girlfriend, infant in car leads deputies on chase, crashes into home

BCSO: Man flees, leaves girlfriend, infant inside car in NE Bexar County

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A man led Bexar County sheriff's deputies on a vehicle chase with his girlfriend and an infant in the car before crashing into a Northeast Bexar County home, officials said.

The chase began near New World Drive and Montgomery Drive just after 3 a.m, when a man in his 40s was pulled over for a traffic stop, Bexar County Sheriff's Office spokesman Johnny Garcia said.

When deputies discovered the man had a felony narcotics warrant, the driver sped off, Garcia said.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a parked car and a garage at a home in the 6600 block of Crone Farm.

The man tried to back out of the structure, but ran into a deputy's vehicle, Garcia said.

The suspect then got out of the car and ran, leaving both his girlfriend and the infant inside.

"A deputy chased(him) for about a block before the suspect actually gave up and complied with the deputy's commands," Garcia said.

The man will be charged with felony evading arrest, felony child endangerment and felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a public servant.

No one inside the car or home was injured, Garcia said.

According to the BCSO Crash Review Board, all protocols were met during the chase as the deputy was unaware of a child in the backseat.
