SAN ANTONIO – A man who was killed Wednesday morning after he crashed his car into a concrete column on Wurzbach Parkway has been identified.

Christian James Mattox, 22, was killed in the crash that occurred around 6:45 a.m. near the Starcrest eastbound exit, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner. He died from blunt force injury.

According to police, Mattox was speeding on Wurzbach Parkway when, for some unknown reason, he lost control of his car and hit a concrete column.

Police said firefighters used the Jaws of Life when they arrived to cut him from the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Police said they want to remind drivers that they need to slow down during wet weather.
