SAN ANTONIO – A man is dead, killed in a vehicle crash on the city's Northeast Side overnight, San Antonio police said Wednesday.

The accident was reported around 2:15 a.m. on the access road of Loop 410 east near Starcrest Drive.

According to police the driver of a white Ford Fusion was traveling eastbound when a San Antonio Police officer attempted to make a traffic stop. That's when, police say, the driver failed to comply with the emergency lights and accelerated.

Police said the driver lost control of his vehicle and drove straight into a large metal pole. The vehicle broke into four pieces after it struck a wooden pole, a brick fence, and then a fire hydrant.
