Traffic accident causes major damage at NE Bexar County strip mall

Car landed inside former insurance office

SAN ANTONIO – A vehicle crash has left a Northeast Bexar County storefront in shambles.

A PT Cruiser landed inside a section of a strip mall located on FM 78 just east of Foster Road shortly before 10 p.m. Monday.

San Antonio police say the car was hit by one of two pick-up trucks involved in a separate crash.

The two trucks were traveling in opposite directions on FM 78 when one made a turn and was hit by the other.

The pick-up that was hit then went out of control and slammed into the car, sending it flying through the glass storefront.

Two drivers were treated for minor injuries, police said.

The space that was damaged by the car, at some point, had been occupied by Rodney D. Young Insurance. However, it appears that it had been emptied out long before the crash happened.

Tuesday morning there was nothing inside but broken glass and pieces of the metal window frame.

Several different agencies, including SAPD, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office and Kirby Fire Department, responded to the scene.

The initial crash involving the two trucks happened on a stretch of FM 78 located within the city limits. However, the strip mall, itself, is located in the county.
