Pedestrian killed after darting onto West Side street, police say

Driver told officers he never saw man before hitting him

SAN ANTONIO – A 34-year-old man was hit by a car and killed after darting into the middle of a West Side street, San Antonio police said.

Mark Anthony Contreras, 37, was attempting to cross Enrique M. Barrera Parkway near S. W. 34th Street.

Police received a call that Contreras had been hit around 10:45 p.m. Sunday. They said the driver, who did stop after the accident, told officers he never saw the man.

Officers at the scene said it did not appear that the driver would face any charges.
