SAPD: Driver may have 'purposely' hit vehicles, 10 cars involved in SW Side crashes

Crash happened in 4000 block of Southwest Military Drive

SAN ANTONIO – A major accident has caused multiple road closures on the Southwest Side, police said Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened in the 4000 block of Southwest Military Drive.

The following roads are closed:

  • Bynum Avenue at Southwest Military Drive

  • New Laredo Highway at Bynum Avenue

  • Old Pearsall Road at Southwest Military Drive

San Antonio police said they received multiple calls about car crashes around 3 p.m. According to a preliminary investigation, police said they believe the driver of a vehicle may have been driving erratically and purposefully hitting cars.

Officer Doug Greene said 12 people have been hospitalized at Southwest Baptist Hospital, University Hospital and San Antonio Military Medical Center. In at least one vehicle, some of the people inside were ejected, Greene said.

Four people, two adults and two children, were taken for treatment Priority 1.

Police said the investigation continues and due to the large size of the crash scene, they are using the department's helicopter.
