Police investigate deadly wreck on NE Side

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are investigating a deadly crash that happened Saturday morning on the city's far Northeast Side.

It happened on Interstate 35 north near O'Connor Road just before 2 a.m.

Police say the driver of a black car may have been speeding when he slammed into a white car that was stalled on the highway.

Police said the driver of a passing truck, who didn't see the accident, slammed into the black car, killing the driver.

That driver was later identified at Michael Chacon, 49.

Police are looking into whether alcohol played a role in the crash, but they said it looks as though speed was the main factor.

No other drivers were hurt, but police said while an officer was working on the wreck another driver ran over the flares and ignored the lights at the scene.

The female driver ended up slamming into a patrol unit, and was arrested for DWI.
