Woman killed in hit-and-run in New Braunfels identified

The victim has been identified as Tara Jane Wood, 35, of New Braunfels.

A woman trying to cross Interstate 35 on Tuesday was hit and killed by a driver who took off after the crash, police said.

The woman’s name has not been released.

She was hit just before 10:55 a.m. in the 300 block of I-35 south, according to a news release from the New Braunfels Police Department.

Officers, along with first-responders from the New Braunfels Fire Department, found the woman unconscious and not breathing, lying in the road, investigators said.
  
The victim was pronounced dead at Resolute Health Hospital.          

The southbound lanes of I-35 were closed for about an hour as police investigated the hit-and-run.   
         
Initial results indicate the woman trying to cross the highway made it part of the way before she was hit by a vehicle.    
         
Anyone with information is asked to contact New Braunfels police or Comal County Crime Stoppers, which is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest or an indictment.
