What do those ‘Air Quality Alert Day' Transguide signs mean?

Alert expected to last through Wednesday

SAN ANTONIO – If you’ve noticed a message on Transguide signs around San Antonio area highways that reads “Air Quality Alert Day,” it means the Alamo City’s air quality is predicted to be unhealthy.

The alert is expected to last through Wednesday.

During air quality alert days, it may be unhealthy for people with lung problems, such as asthma, or for children whose lungs are still developing. It may also not be a good idea to work or exercise outside for an extended period of time.

The signs are supposed to encourage people to go green for Ozone Action Day.

The Alamo Area Council of Governments recommends the following during this time:

Avoid drive-thru lanes. Instead, park and go inside the business.

Drive the speed limit or less, or don’t get behind the wheel at all.

Walk or bike to work or to run your errands. You can also carpool.
