Woman, 76, hit, killed by SUV while crossing street

Fatality reported at Broadway at Ridgecrest; victim ID'd as Loida Paima Recalde

SAN ANTONIO – A 76-year-old woman was hit and killed by a SUV while she was crossing a street Tuesday on the city's North Side.

San Antonio police Sgt. Antonio Zayas said Loida Paima Recalde was crossing Broadway at Ridgecrest around 6:40 a.m. when a Dodge crossover hit the woman.

"They were just traveling. They didn't see the pedestrian (who) apparently darted into the roadway as they were traveling South," Zayas said. "It's apparent that the impact, yes, she may have been knocked out of her shoes."

A couple of blocks around the intersection was closed off for more than an hour while officers directed traffic and investigated.

The driver will not be charged, pending the result of the investigation, Zayas said.
