SAN ANTONIO – Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff on Wednesday announced a disaster declaration for the city of San Antonio and 26 surrounding communities in the wake of storm damage.

Wolff said the declaration, if approved by the state, will allow individuals and residents to apply for grants, low-interest loans and other assistance.

"(We want to) make sure they are not forgotten," Wolff said of the surrounding communities.

San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor on Tuesday announced a similar declaration for the city.

Wolff said four tornadoes touched down in the city and caused extensive damage, and other areas were damaged by straight-line winds.

He announced the disaster declaration during a Bexar County emergency preparedness exercise that was planned months ago.
