Pleasanton community donates to Harvey-battered Rockport-Fulton athletic team

Restaurant owner volunteers to feed away team

PLEASANTON, Texas – Friday night lights were made a bit more special by the Pleasanton community.

Ahead of Pleasanton High School’s game versus the Rockport-Fulton High School Pirates, fans and community members raised $2,000, which will be donated to the Rockport-Fulton athletic program.

"We go fishing over there, so it's not a matter of a football game or a sporting event. It's just a community reaching out and helping a community," said Will Turner, owner of Meme's Kitchen.

Hurricane Harvey rocked the coastal community in August. The images prompted many in Pleasanton to step up and help. They designed shirts and gathered what they could in donations.

"For these boys to still have a heart and want to get together and create a football season, I mean, it's heartbreaking," said Stacie Talamantez, who organized the fundraiser.

Turner is also volunteering to feed the away team. In all, he expects to feed about 70 to 80 players and coaches.
