The Exxon Valdez spills millions of gallons of crude into Alaska’s Prince William Sound

It was on this day in 1989 that the Exxon Valdez, an oil tanker, hit a reef in Alaska’s Prince William Sound, tearing a hole in its hull. 11 million gallons of crude would spill into the water, creating a massive man-made disaster.
