Record lows set in San Antonio, Del Rio Thursday morning

An unusually strong early-season front brings significant changes

SAN ANTONIO – It was as if someone flipped a switch and fall arrived! A summer filled with triple-digit heat came to an abrupt halt after a cold front slid through San Antonio Wednesday night.

In fact, record low temperatures were set in both San Antonio and Del Rio, as both cities dropped down to 57 degrees Thursday morning. The old records were 59 degrees set back in 2012 and 62 degrees set all the way back in 1908, respectively.

And, it wasn’t just South Texas. Many cities in Texas dealt with record-setting cool temperatures Thursday morning.

The unusual pattern drew down cold air from the north and as of Thursday morning, pushed it all the way to the Gulf Coast of Texas. Don’t get too used to it, though. By Saturday, temperatures are forecast to return to near 90 degrees.
