Flash Flood Watch in effect; rain expected throughout the day, ending tonight

SAN ANTONIO - Showers and storms have moved into South Texas on Thursday morning, right in time to affect the morning commute.

UPDATE: A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for most of South Texas, including San Antonio. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for counties to the south and southeast of San Antonio. More rain is expected throughout the day with rain chances ending later in the day.

UPDATE: Flash Flood Warnings are in effect for Bandera, Kerr, Gillespie, Kendall Co's. Flooding is possible through lunchtime.

KSAT 12 meteorologist Mike Osterhage says the showers and storms are moving east. Flooding is already being seen in some parts. Heavy rain will continue all day. 

Some of these storms are producing severe weather. A flash flood watch is in effect until 10 p.m.

It is also possible to see high winds and large hail with these severe storms, Osterhage said.

UPDATE:  Multiple School districts have announced on Thursday that they will either be running late or be canceled altogether as a result of the wet weather.

The Medina Independent School has announced they have canceled classes on Thursday.

As of now, Gonzales Independent School District will be on a two hour delay.

Comal Independent School District also has announced that they will be closed Thursday due to the weather conditions.

Power Outages/ Road Closures

With the threat of severe storms in the forecast, power outages are possible throughout South Texas and San Antonio.

San Antonio police is reporting that the southbound Interstate 35 lower level has been closed due to the wet weather.  

The Westbound Interstate 10 lower level at Frio Street is also closed due to flooding.
