SAN ANTONIO – Flash flooding was a major threat for early morning commuters on Thursday.

KSAT 12 meteorologist Mike Osterhage says a flash flood warning is still in effect for Bexar County until 10 a.m.

The area will see a break in the heavy rain later this morning, but then more showers and storms are expected later today, Osterhage said.

More heavy rain is also possible tomorrow and Saturday.

Radar showed heavy rain with flash flooding conditions spreading quickly around the area. Early estimates are of 3"-5" inches of rain thus far.

School Closures

Bandera ISD has canceled classes for Thursday. Staff however is being told to report at 10:30 a.m. Comal ISD has announced a 1 hour delay to the start of school. Both Navarro ISD and Seguin ISD will be on a two-hour delay, starting classes at 10 a.m.

The lower level of Interstate 35 at San Pedro Road is closed due to flooding. The heavy rain has created a waterfall over I-35 at San Pedro in downtown San Antonio.

The ramp to northbound I-37 from eastbound I-10 is closed due to flooding.

The National Weather Service urges people today to avoid flooded roadways, obey all street closures, and never attempt to cross a stream on foot.
