UTSA art students create mural at San Antonio Zoo

Phase 1 of the mural project was revealed Thursday

SAN ANTONIO – A new mural is bringing some vibrant color to the San Antonio Zoo.

The mural was created and done by UTSA art students.

For the past 10 weeks the students have researched and learned about how best to represent the Africa Live! exhibit.

The 800-square-foot mural depicts an African market run by animals of the savanna. It was painted in 2 1/2 weeks.

This is just phase one of the project -- eventually the entire building will be painted.

The mural project is one of the recent projects the zoo and UTSA has partnered on. Earlier this year engineer students helped with the elephant exhibit.
