Park named for former mayor Peak Peak led effort to secure hike, bike trails for city No description found
As mayor Howard Peak led the effort to create hike and bike trails in San Antonio, and Saturday the city honored those efforts.
The city re-named the Leon Creek Greenway trailhead the Howard W. Peak Greenway Trails System.
Peak served as mayor 1997 to 2001.
In that time he led the city effort to create the greenway trails system, and secured public support for an eighth-cent sales tax to begin developing the nature trails.
That funding helped build 11 miles of the city's trails system.
Peak later would lead the community effort to extend that sales tax to help construct more parks and greenways.
The city now has 41 miles of developed greenway trails.
