Man discovers 7-foot snake slithering in his couch in California

The Vietnamese blue beauty rat may have been someone’s pet

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – A man in southern California got a bit of a shock last week when he discovered a 7-foot Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake coiled up in his couch.

“This is absolutely insane,” the man said in a video shared with KGTV.

The man called So-Cal Rattlesnake Removal to retrieve the reptile. Owner Alex Trejo said even though he gets calls like this a lot, he was surprised to find that particular snake, calling it a rare find.

“You’d be more lucky to find a Rolex sitting on the ground than a snake like this,” he said.

It’s not illegal to own a Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake, Trejo said. He suspects it was a pet that got loose and ended up in the unsuspecting man’s couch.

According to KABC, these snakes thrive in tropical weather and being outside of a controlled climate caused the snake to develop a respiratory infection.

Trejo said he has a good friend who deals with exotic animals.

“He’s out there treating the snake right now,” Trejo said. “We really are keeping our fingers crossed hoping the snake makes it.”

An owner has not yet come forward to claim the snake.
