Teen arrested after supplying illegal weapons to street gang, BCSO says

Investigators found guns in almost every room of Damien Mermella’s home during a search

SAN ANTONIO – An 18-year-old teen is in federal custody after Bexar County sheriff’s deputies said he was supplying illegal firearms to a street gang.

Authorities obtained a federal search warrant for Damien Mermella’s residence in the 300 block of La Gloria Street last week after learning he was supplying the illegal weapons.

During the search, investigators found firearms “in almost every room in the household,” according to the BCSO.

The weapons that deputies confiscated include three automatic firearms and five additional firearms, some of which were assault rifle-style pistols, deputies said.

A taser, lots of ammunition, digital scales, packaging and marijuana were also found during the search.

Mermella was arrested for federal firearms violations. Deputies said he was taken to a federal detention center.
