SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio police officer was hospitalized following a rollover crash with another vehicle that happened while he was responding to a traffic call on Tuesday evening.

San Antonio police say the officer was heading to a reported vehicle crash involving a pedestrian around 5:20 p.m. in the 5500 block of East Rolling Ridge Drive when his vehicle was struck while going through an intersection.

Authorities said the officer was traveling westbound on the access road of Loop 410 and, after coming to a stop at the intersection of Babcock Road, proceeded through the intersection and was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound.

Police said the impact of the crash caused the patrol vehicle to roll over onto its side and strike a light pole. The officer was taken by ambulance to an area hospital as a precaution.

SAPD said the driver of the other vehicle mentioned only minor injuries from his airbag and his passenger in the vehicle was not hurt.

A preliminary police report said no citations were issued as a result of the crash.
