New Braunfels, San Antonio make list of hottest ZIP codes in U.S. in 2022

Far west San Antonio was a hot spot for real estate in 2022, according to Opendoor

New data from real estate company Opendoor shows New Braunfels and San Antonio were two of the hottest places to buy real estate in the United States in 2022.

Opendoor released the top 20 list of most popular ZIP codes, which were ranked by the number of total homes that went into contract within 90 days of listing in 2022.

Data was pulled from the local Multiple Listing Services where Opendoor Brokerage operates and two local ZIP codes topped the list.

  • New Braunfels ZIP code 78130 came in at No. 4 and covers the downtown portion of the city, parts of Gruene and some areas east of I-35 towards McQueeny.
  • San Antonio ZIP code 78253 came in at No. 11 and covers the far west side of San Antonio outside Loop 1604 near SeaWorld, including parts of Alamo Ranch.

“Whether you’re searching for a home in New Braunfels or the San Antonio metro area, this list features some incredible areas for home buyers,” explains Opendoor spokesperson Chelsea Goyer. “From straddling I35, which makes commuting to San Antonio or Austin completely doable, to its proximity to Texas Hill Country, with Canyon Lake and the Guadalupe River minutes away. Not to mention the award-winning Comal Independent School district, and an active country music scene. The San Antonio metro area has skyrocketed in popularity, moving up five spots from last year and nearly making the top 10.”

Opendoor noted that all the rising neighborhoods have a common thread: a small-town feel while close to a bustling downtown for entertainment, dining, and shopping.

“We are seeing homeowners vie for that sense of belonging in cities and towns accessible to major metros via short commutes,” Opendoor officials said in a blog post.
