Man shot while walking home from West Side store, police say

Incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. in 1800 block of West Laurel St.

SAN ANTONIO – A man in his 30s was taken to an area hospital after being shot on the city’s West Side late Monday night, according to San Antonio police.

The shooting happened around 9:40 p.m. in the 1800 block of West Laurel Street, not far from North Zarzamora Street and Culebra Road.

According to police, the man told officers he was being followed by a dark-colored vehicle while he was walking back from a store. That’s when, police say, someone in the vehicle started shooting at him and hit him once in the ankle.

Police said the vehicle fled, and the shooter has not been found.

The man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital, where he’s expected to recover.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.

SAPD said the victim was not giving much information to officers. A motive for the shooting is not currently known.
