AMBER Alert issued for missing 3-year-old child was found in Austin, US Marshals say

It is unclear if Samantha Castaneda, the woman wanted in connection with the boy’s disappearance, is in custody

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – An AMBER Alert issued Wednesday in the San Antonio area for a missing 3-year-old child last seen in northwest Bexar County ended when the child was found safe in Austin, U.S. Marshals officials said.

The child, identified as Chandler Baker, was found safely on Thursday, a news release from the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force states.

Samantha Castaneda, 38, fled her home with Baker and refused contact with law enforcement and special investigators, the release states.

The U.S. Marshals said it began a missing child investigation. Tips from the public and law enforcement intelligence led them to believe Baker was in the Austin area.

Federal agents in San Antonio sent a lead to the U.S. Marshals' Austin Division with a location from a credible source, the release states.

Authorities in Austin established surveillance in the area and went to the home to find Castaneda and Baker.

“Castaneda was given commands and remained compliant,” the release stated.

The child was recovered and taken into state custody.

It is still unclear if Castaneda was arrested or will face any charges in this incident.
