Ceferino Suarez, 99+, was born in Detroit and raised in Pellston. In his youth, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. His grandfather, Manuel Suarez, fled Spain because he was on Mussolini’s most wanted list. When Manuel passed, an initialed, silver Mussolini bullet was found in his heart. Cef is my wife’s (Linda Jean Suarez) uncle and is living in a retirement home in Orlando. Walter Ruether crashed on my father in law’s (Gosi Manual Suarez) farm at 1125 Ely Bridge Road, Pellston. Gosi was the first person to the plane. “You never forget the smell of burning flesh.” As a young boy, Gosi mixed paint for Diego Rivera. Gosi was supposed to be Jose. The Ellis Island clerk wrote Gosi.
