Celebrate Día de Los Muertos at this event

Seniors and their families can enjoy this celebration honoring ancestors & loved ones who have passed on.

Día de Los Muertos is happening soon, and to celebrate, AARP is sponsoring La Vida de Los Muertos, an event hosted by the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center.

La Vida de Los Muertos is a performance featuring the Guadalupe Dance Company and the Mariachi Academy, which celebrates Día de Los Muertos through dance and music. There will also be an exhibit of altars created by the San Antonio community at the Progresso Community Gallery.

The event gives people of all ages the opportunity to come out and celebrate Día de Los Muertos, a tradition with roots dating back several thousand years.

By empowering people to choose how they live as they age, activities like this can break the social isolation older adults may experience. According to AARP, there is strong evidence that social isolation can increase health risks for adults aged 50 and older, so events like this are enjoyable and stimulating.

La Vida de Los Muertos performance allows everyone to stay engaged with the community. Family members of all ages can come and spend quality time together, and for older adults, this is a time to get involved with the community.

It’s also a great opportunity to learn more about the tradition of honoring ancestors and loved ones who have passed on.

La Vida de Los Muertos will be held on Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Plaza Guadalupe, located at 1327 Guadalupe St.
