Anita "Lady A" White says she is "not going to be erased" after the country band, formerly known as Lady Antebellum, changed their name to "Lady A" and sued her. "I think they always knew what they were gonna do," White tells Vulture in an interview published Thursday. "But here we go again with another white person trying to take something from a Black person, even though they say theyre trying to help. I had suggested on the Zoom call that they go by the Band Lady A, or Lady A the Band, and I could be Lady A the Artist, but they didnt want to do that," she notes. Lady Antebellum is making a big change. The group announced on Thursday that it will drop the word "Antebellum" from the name it has used since its formation in 2006 and go by Lady A, a nickname it says fans have long used. The change, the group said in a statement, comes after realizing the word's association to slavery. "When we set out together almost 14 years ago, we named our band after the southern 'antebellum' style home where we took our first photos. "Causing pain was never our hearts' intention, but it doesn't change the fact that indeed, it did just that," they wrote.
