Netflix once again dominates Golden Globe TV nominations

The streaming giant scooped up 20 small-screen nods โ nearly three times as many as its closest competitor, HBO, and beating the 17 TV nominations it got last year. Streaming newcomer HBO Max scored two nominations with โThe Flight Attendant,โ a best comedy TV berth and also earned โThe Big Bang Theoryโ veteran Kaley Cuoco her first Globe nod. Little-known Pop TV earned five nominations โ all for the Canadian comedy โSchittโs Creek,โ which swept the comedy Emmy Awards last year. AdโThe Greatโ now faces โThe Flight Attendant,โ โSchittโs Creek,โ โEmily in Parisโ and โTed Lassoโ for bragging rights to best comedy TV series.

GLAAD also noted that transgender characters were prominently featured in โ9-1-1: Lone Star,โ โStar Trek: Discovery,โ โSaved by the Bell,โ โBig Mouthโ and โSupergirl.โAward recipients will be announced during a virtual ceremony scheduled for April. Music artists who earned GLAAD nominations this year include Adam Lambert, Brandy Clark, Halsey, Kehlani, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Pabllo Vittar, Peppermint, Ricky Martin and Sam Smith.
Gothams give virtual start to Oscar season, 'Nomadland' wins
The film won best feature at the Gotham Awards on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. Opening the show, Jeffrey Sharp, executive director of the Gotham Film & Media Institute, predicted that there would be โglitches and gremlinsโ throughout the event. All of the films nominated for best feature were directed by women, including lead-nominee getter โFirst Cow,โ by Kelly Reichardt. Zhao, whose โThe Riderโ won best feature at the Gothams two years ago, thanked the festivals that, like the Gothams, carried on despite the trying circumstances. Nicole Behaire won best actress for โMiss Juneteenth.โ โOh, my God,โ she mouthed while still on mute.

'Glee' creators plan college fund for Naya Rivera's son
LOS ANGELES A college fund is being created for Naya Rivera's son by the creators of Glee, who remembered the performer as joyful and immensely talented. Naya was more than just an actor on our show she was our friend, Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan said in a statement Tuesday. Riveras body was found Monday in Southern Californias Lake Piru, five days after she and Josey had gone out on a rented boat. Our hearts go out to her family, especially her mom, Yolanda, who was a big part of the Glee family, and her son Josey, the three producers said, referring to the 4-year-old as the beautiful son Naya loved most of all.Josey is Riveras son with her former husband, actor Ryan Dorsey. ... She was a joy to write for, a joy to direct and a joy to be around, they said.
Actress Naya Rivera, who rose to fame in 'Glee,' dies at 33
NEW YORK Naya Rivera, a singer and actress who played a gay cheerleader on the hit TV musical comedy Glee, was found dead Monday in a Southern California lake. What a force you were, wrote Glee co-star Jane Lynch on Twitter. She is survived by her parents, Yolanda and George; a younger brother, Mychal; a sister, Nickayla; and her 4-year-old son. Naya Rivera was a fierce talent with so much more to do and this is such a terrible tragedy. In the preface to her autobiography, Rivera wrote that motherhood had changed her life and given it perspective.

Awkwafina, Zendaya among 819 invited to join film academy
Cynthia Erivo, John David Washington, Eva Longoria, Zendaya and Awkwafina are among the 819 people who have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. If they accept, which most do, those in the new class will have voting privileges at this years Oscars. A handful of actors from this years best picture winner Parasite, including Jang Hye-Jin, Jo Yeo-Jeong, Park So-Dam and Lee Jung-Eun, were also invited to join. The Academy said that 49% of the new invitees are international and represent some 68 countries. It has since surpassed those goals and continues to infuse membership classes with both women and people from underrepresented communities.
