Never-Before-Seen Footage of 1986 Titanic Dive Released
The Massachusetts-based Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), which conducted the exploration and is now releasing the footage, said some of the 80-minute video has never been seen by the public. Around 1500 people died when the Titantic struck an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage from England to New York City in 1912. The wreckage wasn’t discovered until September 1, 1985, when a team from WHOI and Institut français de recherche pour l’exploitation de la mer (IFEMER) found it using new imaging technology.
