Downtown arena deal takes significant step; Spurs to fund city’s federal land purchase

San Antonio took another step toward the creation of a new Spurs arena on Thursday. The city council voted unanimously to submit an offer to buy a cluster of federal properties near Hemisfair using $30 million, plus $120,000 in closing costs, both provided by the Spurs.
