A big moment in a years-long fight over San Antonio’s drinking water.

A big moment in a years-long fight over San Antonio’s drinking water. City Council voted NO on a way for the developer to pay for the Guajolote Ranch project — a major win for the people who’ve been fighting to protect the Edwards Aquifer, the drinking water source for 2.5 million people in Central Texas. The proposed development would bring about 3,000 homes to northwest Bexar County and require a wastewater treatment plant built over a sensitive aquifer system — raising concerns about treated sewage entering the same water source San Antonio relies on. This vote doesn’t stop the project entirely — but it creates a major roadblock for how developers move forward.
