Dignowity Hill Farmer's Market opens for the season

Founder hopeful it will bring East Side community together

SAN ANTONIO – The Dignowity Hill Farmer’s Market kicked off its spring season opening on Sunday.

People who stopped by were treated to free fitness in the park, free health screenings and yoga and Zumba classes by donation.

Michelle Herrera, founder of the market, said she is excited to see fresh food options in her East Side community.

"There's not a lot of fresh food options, and if there are, it's very small (with) not a lot of access. So we thought if we made a forum for our community to get some products that they would not otherwise would have known about. (They are) things that are grown here in Texas, that are good for you as well," Herrera said.

The market is open every second and fourth Sunday of the month, with the exception of Easter. After an increase of violence in the area, Herrera is also hopeful this will bring the East Side community together.
