NUECES COUNTY, Texas – The father of slain tejano music queen Selena Quintanilla-Perez is suing her husband, Chris Perez, and Endemol to stop production of a series about her love story with Perez, Forbes reports.

The lawsuit filed in Nueces County court by Abraham Quintanilla Jr. comes just weeks after Endemol Shine North America announced the development of the series.

The suit was filed to stop production of the upcoming series. It says only Selena’s estate has the rights “to author or authorize and commercially exploit a book, play, video, film, TV movie, magazine, or similar or dissimilar medium for disseminating any story” about her life.

The suit states that Perez, in 1995 after Selena's death, “expressly agreed that he would not exploit any of the Entertainment Properties in any manner or medium, including, without limitation, by way of a book, television series, movie, or any other motion picture medium and “agreed to receive, among other things, twenty-five percent (25%) of the net profits derived from the exploitation of the Entertainment Properties.”

According to the suit, Perez’s book, which was released in 2012, is considered “unauthorized exploitation” and breached the agreement he signed.
