Garth Brooks planning at least 2 Texas concerts

Country star to perform at Houston Rodeo

HOUSTON – Country music superstar Garth Brooks is returning to RodeoHouston next year.

Brooks will open and close the 2018 rodeo.

The opening show will be on Feb. 27, 2018 and the closing show will be on March 18, 2018.

"I'm just going to warn you now, you've got a year to prepare. Just make sure you bring a helmet because it's going to be loud, it's going to be fun," Brooks said.

The singer sold out multiple shows at the AT&T Center in San Antonio in 2016.

Brooks tweeted Thursday that he had a big announcement to make involving Houston.

“On my way to Austin, via Houston?” Brooks said in the social media message.

This story comes from KPRC in Houston.

“We are thrilled to welcome Garth Brooks back to the RODEOHOUSTON stage,” said Jack A. Lyons, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo chairman of the board. “This is the first time in multi-entertainer Show history that one artist has opened and closed RODEOHOUSTON, and we could not think of a more engaging performer to take on this epic presentation."

There is also speculation that the country star will also perform at SXSW in Austin this weekend. The singer is scheduled to make an announcement at a press conference Friday at 11 a.m.

Another tweet from the Houston Rodeo featured a picture of a woman holding a sign that featured the Garth Brooks logo of an circled lowercase "g."

Brooks last performed at the Houston Rodeo in 1993. He also played the event in 1991.
