Sour and sweet treats grow in popularity

Flavor Favs: Big Daddy's Eats and Treats

SAN ANTONIO – A love for raspas turned into a successful business for Jaime Morales. It started a few years ago after he quit his job as a truck driver and bought a 1977 RV and a snow cone machine.

"He started hitting the streets, the neighborhoods and parks," manager Roland Castillo said.

From there Big Daddy's Eats and Treats would go brick and mortar and open up a location at 228 East Cevallos.

Those normal raspas would not turn into products now called mangodilly, fresa bears and mangohill.

"He had this concept that everybody makes raspas, so Jaime decided we are going to make raspas but like raspas on steroids," Castillo.

Now those treats have become very popular in San Antonio and are becoming a part of San Antonio culture.

For Big Daddy's most of the ideas on the menu have come from the customers. Customers often go off menu creating there own treats.

"We'll make it, just tell us what you want we will add whatever," Castillo said.

Because of the continued growth and popularity of these treats Big Daddy's has added another location at 5358 W. Military Dr. and they look forward to opening up more locations in the future.
