South Side burger joint gains following with classic menu items

Flavor Favs: Mad Mack's Burger Co.

SAN ANTONIO – Cheese, lettuce and tomato. The simple toppings are what make a classic hamburger one of the best. Mad Mack’s Burger Co. on San Antonio's South Side is sticking to the classic recipe.

The burger joint at 2933 Roosevelt Ave. is quickly becoming a favorite of the Alamo City with some old school classics on the menu.

"I like burgers. Everyone in my family likes burgers, and it got to the point that it was really hard to find a good burger," owner Shanda Kern said.

Open for just over a year, Mad Mack's is all about family. The restaurant was named after Kern's nieces, Madison and Mackenzie. It's also run entirely by family members.

While its classic burger might be what keeps people coming back, Mad Mack's doesn't shy away from branching into uncharted burger waters.

The menu features burgers like the All American Cheeseburger and the Hickory Burger. But perhaps the most inventive item on the menu is a signature burger called the Mad Mack Burger, which uses grilled cheese sandwiches as the bun.

Whether it's the food, the service or a combination of the two, Mad Mack's maintains a 5-star customer rating on Facebook.

As National Burger Month winds down, customers can rely on Mad Mack's Burger Co. for a great burger and a great place to bring friends and family.
