SAN ANTONIO – The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation has surpassed its goal to raise $80 million before Dec. 31, hospital officials announced Tuesday.
The money was needed to transform the downtown campus into the city’s first freestanding children’s hospital, according to a news release.

Hospital officials set the campaign goal in November 2015. The money was raised thanks to a variety of gifts from across the community and various business leaders.
The John L. Santikos Charitable Foundation gave the Children’s Hospital a $2.5 million grant, announced Tuesday, that will go toward the pediatric medical program — which is expected to enhance pediatric trauma services. With the gift, the campaign has now surpassed $83.2 million, hospital officials said.
The “Putting Children First” campaign strives to serve the children of San Antonio and South Texas in the best way possible.
“We have so many people and organizations to thank,” said Ray R. Carvajal, chairman of The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation Board of Directors, in the release. “The generosity and support for this project for the children in our community have been tremendous. We are grateful for the support and thank all the donors for their generosity and investment in our greatest asset – our children.”
Other donors who gifted at least $1 million include: the Goldsbury Foundation, HEB, Harvey E. Najim and the Najim Family Foundation, The USAA Foundation, USAA, Valero Energy Foundation, Feik Family Foundation, Mays Family Foundation, SWBC Foundation, Impetus Foundation on behalf of Malú and Carlos Alvarez, Klesse Family Foundation, The Gorman Foundation, The Greehey Family Foundation, Walmart & Sam’s Club, Max and Minnie Tomerlin Voelcker Fund, Corner Store and a combined gift from The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Foundation Board of Directors.
