10 deadliest stretches of road in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – Every day, KSAT reports on wrecks, crashes and accidents on San Antonio's streets. But how often do those incidents turn deadly? And which streets have the deadliest crashes?

A total of 73 fatal accidents were reported on 10 of San Antonio’s busiest stretches of roads from 2012-2014, according to data obtained by KSAT 12.

The Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) showed that the stretch of road with the most fatal accidents during the three-year period was Culebra Road.

FARS reported 16 fatal accidents on Culebra Road, 13 of them inside Loop 1604 headed east into the downtown area.  

The second deadliest stretch of road in San Antonio was Military Drive, with 10 fatal accidents. The majority of the accidents were on Southwest Military from JBSA-Kelly Field to Roosevelt Avenue.

The third deadliest stretch of road with eight fatal accidents was Commerce Street, generally east and west of downtown San Antonio.

Nacogdoches Road on the near Northeast Side had a total of eight reported fatal accidents when combined with FM 2252, which runs past Loop 1604 toward Bracken.

Bandera Road, which stretches from Culebra Road past Loop 1604 on the Northwest Side, had seven reported fatal accidents.

The data did not indicate a correlation between the accidents or a primary reason for the incidents, only when and where they were reported. 

The following roads make up the list of deadliest stretches of roads in San Antonio from 2012-2014.

Data for 2015 was not available at the time this article was published.
