12-year-old hit by gunshots fired on Loop 410, police say

Gunshot believed to come from passing car

SAN ANTONIO – A 12-year-old boy is being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound in his neck and San Antonio police believe the shot was fired by someone in a passing car on Loop 410 near Nacogdoches Road.

Officers responded to nearby Northeast Baptist Hospital around 11 p.m. Monday and found the child there. The boy was later transferred to University Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

According to officers at the scene, the boy's parents took him to the hospital after the shooting. They told police that someone in a dark or black Dodge, possibly a Charger, had fired the shot.

Police said the couple told them there were two men inside the vehicle.

Although police did not immediately reveal the motive for the shooting, they did indicate that this did not appear to be related to any type of road rage incident.

Correction: The original story stated that the boy wounded was 13 years old. The story has since been updated with new information.
