2 men arrested after shooting, crashing car into West Side home

3 people inside not hurt

SAN ANTONIO – A scary situation for a West Side family after a car plowed into their home on the corner of Lake Boulevard and Donaldson Avenue. Three people were inside the home at the time of the crash but escaped without injury.

Police told KSAT the entire incident started on the city's South Side near Highway 90 and 36th Street when they got a call for shots fired around 7 p.m. Sunday.

The department’s helicopter spotted the vehicle on the West Side. When officers responded to the area, the driver of the Mercedes sped off reaching speeds up to 60 mph.

"I heard tires squealing and I look around the side and I heard a crash. I saw the car running there and saw the first cop jump out and tackle somebody," neighbor Richard Payne said.

Investigators said the 34-year-old driver crashed into the house and ran around the back of the home, but he was quickly taken into custody. His 19-year-old passenger immediately surrendered to police.

"We found a large quantity of methamphetamine and we found three handguns in there. The driver seemed to be intoxicated, so DUI is going to come and process him. He’s looking at a handful of charges," said San Antonio police Lt. Dave Berrigan.

Possible charges include felony possession of a firearm, possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, and aggravated assault.  Police tested both the driver and passenger's hands for gunpowder.

Police estimate damage to the home to be at least $20,000.
