Bartender critically wounded in shooting downtown

Shooting reported at The Reservoir in 300 block of N. Presa Street

SAN ANTONIO – A well-known bartender was critically wounded in a shooting Saturday night outside a bar downtown.

Daniel Rivera, owner of The Reservoir in the 300 block of North Presa Street, identified the victim as Lee Gutierrez.

Rivera said that Gutierrez wasn't working but was hanging around outside the bar when police said he got into an argument with two men.

One the men shot Gutierrez in the stomach, police said. The victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition.

People who know Gutierrez say he is well-known for his sense of humor and wit and that a lot of people are pulling for his recovery.

"We're all family down here. We're all river rats, you know," Rivera said. "Whether you own a bar or you don't, you're categorized as a river rat, and he's a river rat. Everybody's really involved down here, so everybody loves Lee down here."

Gutierrez's coworkers and friends said they are shocked and angry over the shooting.

No arrests have been made.
