20 arrested in Seguin gang sweep

Seguin police: Members linked to the Mexican Mafia, Orejones

SEGUIN, Texas – Twenty suspected members of the Mexican Mafia and the Orejones gang were arrested in Seguin on Monday in a wide sweep that resulted in dozens of drug-related charges.

During the raid, members of the Seguin Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office, Comal County Sheriff's Office, New Braunfels Police Department, and Cibolo Police Department seized methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, cash, three handguns, a shotgun and rifle.

"We're talking about organizations that are involved with almost every type of criminal activity you can think of," Seguin Police Sgt.  James Springer said in a statement. "It means everything to us to be able to get them off the street."

Of those indicted, 13 were arrested during the roundup, four were served warrants while already in jail, and three other suspects were arrested on additional charges.

The investigation on the two gangs started as early as November.

Recently, 17 sealed indictments were obtained against suspected members. The charges include engaging in organized criminal activity, trafficking, and manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance. Several warrants also included aggravated assault charges.
