2015 Grand Champion steer sells for $130,000

White Hammer steer sets new SA Stock Show record

SAN ANTONIO – This year's Grand Champion Steer, the White Hammer, is a year and a half old and weighed in at 1,369 pounds. His owner is Jagger Horn, 13, from Anson, Texas.

Horn said he couldn't believe his home-raised steer won.

"I was just overwhelmed and amazed," he said.

Saturday morning, the White Hammer went for $130,000, a San Antonio Stock Show record.

"I never really thought I'd have this opportunity and I want to thank San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, my family and all my supporters," Horn said.

Hundreds of buyers and spectators filled the auction room to watch all 250 steers be auctioned.

"We have some of the most generous buyers in the country. They'll come support these kids so they can either continue their college education, a career in agribusiness or buy their next animal," said auction chairman Mark Metcalfe.

"I'm going to use this money, and I'll use it for college, and I want to go to A&M," Horn said. "It's just a whole lot of work for me. And my dad puts in a whole lot of effort and money and everything he can for me."
