33 SA public schools honored for student achievement

Nonprofit Children at Risk ranks school statewide

SAN ANTONIO – The nonprofit Children at Risk announced Monday the top performing schools and gold ribbon schools in the Alamo City.

The organization said it analyzed more than 500 public schools in the area.

More than 30 schools were recognized during Monday’s event.

But president and CEO of Children at Risk Dr. Bob Sanborn said the point of the rankings is also meant to help schools that aren’t performing as well.

"So one of the key things, for us, is to figure out how do we turn around these schools that aren't doing so well,” Sanborn said. “But more importantly, how do we fight for these schools at the Texas Legislature so they get the funding they need and so our state can’t complain about them but spend time turning them around?"
