Adkisson endorses Taylor in mayoral runoff

SAN ANTONIO – Former mayoral candidate Tommy Adkisson announced Friday that he will support Mayor Ivy Taylor in the upcoming runoff election.

Adkisson said the decision was tough because he's close with both candidates.

"I think that Ivy Taylor has the local experience to allow her to govern from day one of her swearing in and I think that she will also commit to staying locally," Adkisson said. "I really think Ivy is in place. She is doing a good job, she will only improve over time. She will settle the dust on the fire and police (union negotiations) and get on with the rest of the basics."

Adkisson's campaign for the office ended when the May 9 election came down to Taylor and Leticia Van de Putte. He finished fourth in the election.

Van de Putte has already picked up the endorsement of Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff.

Early voting in the runoff begins June 1. Election Day is June 13.
