Attorney recorded more than 250 videos of sex with women, prosecutors say

Mark Benavides accused of exchanging sex for legal services

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio attorney recorded more than 250 sex videos with women since 2009, prosecutors told a judge Monday.

During a bond hearing for Mark Benavides, 46, prosecutors asked that the judge follow the grand jury's recommendation and set bond at $500,000.

"They heard about all the different encounters and they heard about 250-plus videos that are in evidence in this case, and that is the bond they felt was appropriate, so we stand by that in our recommendation," prosecutor Meredith Chacon said.

Benavides' attorney, Monica Guererro, asked for a maximum bond of $100,000.

"I disagree with Ms. Chacon's statement that the grand jury heard all of the evidence, because they have heard only what the state has presented and not anything on behalf of the defense," Guerrero said. "We feel that a $500,000 bond is over-intrusive."

Judge Dick Alcala set bond at $250,000 and ordered that Benavides wear a GPS tracking device.

Benavides posted bond Monday afternoon and is free awaiting trial.

Two weeks ago, a grand jury indicted Benavides on 35 counts of compelling prostitution and sexual assault. He is accused of recording sexual encounters with nine clients in exchange for legal representation.

No trial date has been set.
