Killing at South Side 8-liner parlor began with robbery, Sheriff's Office says

Investigators believe multiple people involved

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – The fatal shooting of a 36-year-old man inside a South Side gaming room began with a robbery, according to investigators with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the 2700 block of Oak Island Drive before 11 p.m. Wednesday and found the man dead from multiple gunshot wounds, said Rosanne Hughes, a BCSO spokeswoman. She said he was found inside a mobile home that had been converted into an 8-liner gaming room.

"Preliminary investigation results are showing that there were multiple suspects involved in what started as an armed robbery,” she said.

Hughes said at least one of the robbers had his face covered with a mask. However, she said there are still a lot things that investigators don’t know about the case.

"One of them is how many suspects were involved, and what did they get away with? Were they able to take anything?” she said.

A statement from the sheriff’s official initially said that the man who was killed was shot in the head, and that he was the manager of the business.

Later, Hughes said that information had changed, and that the suspect was shot more than once on his body, and it’s not clear whether he worked for the establishment or was a customer.

A detective at the scene declined to comment on whether the 8-liner business was legal.

Hughes said although detectives don’t have all the answers yet, it appears that this is not just an ordinary homicide case.

"Because a felony was being committed, armed robbery, and a man was shot and killed, that upgrades this case to capital murder,” she said.

Although detectives did find witnesses at the scene, they still are issuing an appeal to the public for information. Anyone who knows anything about the killers is asked to call the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office’s tip line at 210-335-TIPS (8477), or Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867).
