Bill intends to prevent, combat cyberbullying

Law will require districts to have anonymous way for students to report bullying

AUSTIN – The Molak family will be in Austin on Thursday at a public hearing to testify on behalf of David's Law, a bill that aims at preventing and combating cyberbullying.

Also testifying is Sen. Jose Menendez and Leo Vasquez, a San Antonio father who said his son overcame online bullying.

If the bill passes, the law will require school districts to have an anonymous avenue for students to report bullying. It would also give school districts the ability to investigate off-campus events and to collaborate with law enforcement on investigations.

The law is named after 16-year-old David Molak, who took his own life last year after being bullied.
