Bystander shot after argument spills into parking lot of motel

Shooting was reported 9 p.m. in 5700 block of Industry Park Dr

SAN ANTONIO – A bystander is in the hospital Monday morning after being shot during a disturbance that spilled in front of a Northeast Side motel, San Antonio police said.

The shooting was reported just before 9 p.m. Sunday in the 5700 block of Industry Park Drive, found not far from Rittiman Road.

Police said they first received the call about an argument behind a Burger King located on Rittiman Road. The men however had left by the time police arrived, taking their arguing to a nearby parking lot of a Travel Inn motel.

People staying at the motel eventually came out of their rooms due to the arguing and asked the men to leave, police said. That's when, according to police, the men went back to the Burger King to argue some more.

Following the argument one of the men drove back to the Travel Inn and started shooting at the guests still standing outside, hitting one of them, police said.

The victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center for his injuries but he is expected to recover.

Witnesses told police the suspect drove off in a small red vehicle with four people inside.

So far no arrests have been made. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
