SAN ANTONIO - A 36-year-old man who is charged in the slaying of a 15-year-old girl and her unborn baby was the father of the child, according to a San Antonio police report.

Armando Rodrigo Garcia-Ramires is charged with two counts of capital murder in connection with the shooting death of Jennifer Delgado, which occurred Monday afternoon.

The report said that a woman who called 911 to report that Garcia-Ramires was going to shoot himself told officers that she had just found out that the suspect was the father to
Delgado's unborn child and her 1-year-old son.

Police were called to a wooded field in the 1100 block of Babcock Road, where they found Garcia-Ramires holding a handgun, the report said. After he was confronted by officers, Garcia-Ramires tossed the gun.

Garcia-Ramires shot himself once through the mouth with a 22-caliber handgun, police said. He was taken to University Hospital, where he was recovering Tuesday.

Upon further questioning of the woman, officers learned that Delgado lived in an apartment nearby. When they arrived at the complex at Babcock Road and Hillcrest Drive, they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, police said.

Delgado was taken to a hospital, where she and her unborn baby died, police said.

According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Garcia-Ramires was charged with illegal entry from Mexico on Jan. 19, 2011.

ICE officials placed a detainer on the suspect with the Bexar County Jail following his arrest.
